Transforming Trowbridge
Regenerating the heart of Wiltshire's County Town
Brewery Quarter
Site proposal
A planning application was submitted in May 2007 for the redevelopment of the former Ushers Brewery Bottling plant site in Union Street on behalf of Barton Finch Ltd.
The proposals are for :
- A new supermarket
- A range of new shops
- 236 town centre car parking spaces
- 119 new homes and flats (of which 30% will be affordable homes)
- Public square
- Cafes and restaurants
Newland Homes have recently submitted a planning application to Wiltshire Council which follows detailed discussions during the course of this year, a decision by the Council on the plans is expected in early January 2012.
Since the granting of planning permission in 2008 for 99 dwellings which was made up of a equal mix of house and apartments we have seen a significant change in the housing market and an increase in the need for family homes in the Town. This has led to a proposal which responds to this and provides a mix of predominantly houses with a much smaller number of apartments totaling 79 new dwellings on the site overall.
The architect designed proposal responds to the traditional architecture found locally which has resulted in a high quality and attractive arrangement of homes.
Development of the site sees homes fronting Union Street which complete and activate the existing street frontage. Improved pedestrian links to and from the existing Sainsbury’s are provided along with widening of the existing footpath to the East of the site. For more information view the following PDFs:
