Site proposal

A planning application has been approved for the redevelopment of the former Ushers Brewery Bottling plant site in Union Street on behalf of Barton Finch Ltd.

The proposals are for :

  • A new Sainsbury's supermarket
  • A range of new shops
  • 236 town centre car parking spaces
  • 119 new homes and flats (of which 30% will be affordable homes)
  • Public square
  • Cafes and restaurants

Latest news

Developer Barton Finch has gained outline planning consent for the redevelopment. The detailed issues are currently under discussion and a final decision is expected by late 2008 with work anticipated to start by the end of the year.

When the scheme proposals were exhibited at the West Wilts Show in July 2007, a survey of public opinion was carried out. Of the 1,019 responses received, 99.3% were in favour of the principle of the site's development.
