Station

Site proposal

In terms of the rail network Trowbridge occupies a central position in Wiltshire. It is situated mid-way between Swindon and Salisbury and close to Chippenham, Westbury and Melksham. The station is central to Trowbridge and nearly three quarters of residents live within 2,000 metres of it, within which over 7,000 people live within 800 metres (walking distance). In addition the station is adjacent to the former Bowyers factory site (a major brownfield regeneration opportunity) and is within 800 metres of the town centre.

Transforming Trowbridge views the station as a key element in the regeneration of the town and recognises its potential to work as a proper transport interchange bringing together train services, buses, taxis, cycles and pedestrian routes. To achieve this, we are working with the Trans Wiltshire Rail initiative which aims to deliver an hourly train services between Swindon and Salisbury (with its links to the south coast) via Trowbridge. We believe that such a service is required to support the economic growth of the town by providing improved linkages and transport choices to local workers, shoppers and visitors.

The range of improvements we wish to see delivered include:

  • Upgrading the car park
  • Improving the waiting facilities
  • Provision of toilets
  • Improved access to and from Stallard Street
  • Bus access
